Jaylen Brown on LeBron: 76ers Are ‘Working, Man’

Brown gave the most straightforward update yet on the Sixers' biggest chemistry test: LeBron is healthy, and the work has already started.

Philadelphia has the most watched training camp situation in the NBA this fall, and Jaylen Brown’s take on it is blunt.

On a Twitch stream earlier this week, the former Celtics wing was asked about life with the 76ers. His answer: “He looks good, healthy.” Then, almost as an aside: “We’re working, man.”

Two sentences. That’s the update.

A superteam built one workout at a time

The context behind those two sentences matters. LeBron James, 41, joined Philadelphia in free agency this summer, a decision that only became realistic after the 76ers traded Paul George and a package of draft picks to Boston to acquire Brown himself. Brown was the catalyst. Then, per Bleacher Report, Brown reportedly helped recruit James directly, with sources describing a “no ego” approach from the wing.

He has backed it up. Brown mentioned he shed roughly seven pounds this offseason to be “a little more fast and nimble” to share the floor with Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and James. That’s not a player protecting his usage. That’s a player thinking about fit.

“We got Bron,” Brown said on stream. “What an opportunity that is.”

The workout video that got people talking

On August 19, trainer Chris Johnson posted an Instagram video showing Brown, Maxey, and James working out together. The clip moved fast online. The intensity in it suggested a group not easing into anything.

Brown also addressed the transition itself, calling the adjustment to the Sixers a “different dimension” compared to his years in Boston. Different city, different system, different teammates. He seems to be treating the difference as fuel.

The 76ers open the regular season on October 20. Joel Embiid’s health sits at the center of Philadelphia’s ceiling, as usual. But the roster around him has real teeth: Brown and James as versatile wings, Maxey as one of the league’s best point guards, Edgecombe as a two-way piece with upside. Fitting it all together is the work of camp.

What the league is watching

ESPN’s summer forecast puts the Sixers in the Eastern Conference Finals conversation, with one executive noting that “it’s going to take Philly a while to come together.” Brown’s comments don’t argue with that. They suggest the process is already underway.

Six weeks from Opening Night, that’s not a bad sign.
