The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading guard Dennis Schroder and cash to the Charlotte Hornets for guard Tre Mann, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Deal terms
OUT of Cleveland: Dennis Schroder (32, G) + ~$4M cash
IN to Cleveland: Tre Mann (25, G)
Cap savings: ~$6.8M (Schroder at $14.8M vs. Mann at $8M for 2026-27)

A cap play first, a roster move second

At face value, Cleveland isn’t getting a better player. Mann averaged 5.5 points over 53 games with Charlotte last season – numbers that barely register on a contender’s depth chart. The real prize is the salary sheet. Cleveland nets nearly $7 million in cap room by going from Schroder’s $14.8M deal to Mann’s $8M contract. That gap could fund another signing before training camp opens.

Schroder, 32, split last season between Sacramento and Cleveland, posting 10.8 points and 4.9 assists across 70 games. Reliable in stretches – a downhill attacker with playoff experience – but the fit with Cleveland’s defensive system never clicked completely. A quiet end to a decent run.

What this means for Charlotte

The Hornets are deep in rebuild territory after shipping LaMelo Ball to Minnesota last month. Schroder arrives as the most experienced guard on the roster: 13 seasons, 11 franchises, playoff miles that most of Charlotte’s young core has never logged. He won’t reverse the rebuild, but he gives the locker room a credible voice while the front office maps out what comes next.

His early seasons in Oklahoma City – another rebuilding project, another young roster – showed Schroder can navigate this role without complaint. Expect him to start at point guard and lead by example for a group still figuring out what it is.
