NCAA Transfer Portal 2026: Michigan Champions, Juke Harris Commits to Tennessee, Rosters Taking Shape

Michigan won the title with an all-transfer starting five. Now the 2026 portal window has closed, with Juke Harris heading to Tennessee among the final big moves.

The 2026 college basketball offseason is in full swing, and the transfer portal activity is shaping up to define next season’s contenders before the summer even begins.

Michigan: Champions Built on Transfers

The Michigan Wolverines won the 2026 National Championship with a roster built almost entirely in the portal — their entire starting five were transfers, with additional portal pieces coming off the bench. It’s the clearest statement yet that college basketball has fundamentally changed: you don’t need four-year development anymore to build a title winner.

Portal Moves Winding Down

The transfer window opened on April 7, the day after the Championship Game, and closed April 21. As of early May, only 10 of the top 175 available players remain uncommitted. Among the most notable recent moves:

  • Juke Harris (No. 8 portal player) committed to Tennessee, giving the Volunteers another high-caliber piece for their roster.
  • Markus Burton, who led the ACC in scoring as a sophomore at Notre Dame, committed to Indiana.
  • Derek Dixon (North Carolina) committed to Arizona, where he projects into the starting five immediately.
  • KJ Lewis (Georgetown) committed to USC, bringing versatility and ACC experience to the Pac-12.

The Big Picture

The 2026-27 rosters are nearly set, and programs that moved quickly and strategically in the portal window are positioning themselves well. The era of portal-first roster construction is no longer a trend — it’s the standard.
