Victor Wembanyama delivered one of the most complete individual performances in recent playoff memory Friday night, finishing with 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-108 in Game 3 to take a 2-1 series lead.

The numbers are staggering, but the historical context makes them extraordinary. Wembanyama became just the fourth player in NBA history to post 35 or more points, 15 or more rebounds, and five or more blocks in a single playoff game. The only others on that list are Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – three of the most dominant big men the sport has ever seen.

A Line Only Wembanyama Could Hit at 70 Percent

He went 13 of 18 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line, making him the only player in that four-man club to accomplish the feat while shooting above 70 percent from the floor. The last player to manage something close was Shaquille O’Neal on May 6, 2001 – 25 years and two days before Friday’s game in Minnesota.

The performance was built on precision, not volume. Wembanyama was deliberate and physically dominant throughout, protecting the rim on defense while dictating tempo in the mid-range and at the line on offense. Five blocks came without fouling out or sacrificing defensive positioning.

Support Cast Keeps the Wolves at Bay

Stephon Castle added 13 points and 12 assists with a team-high plus-17 rating. De’Aaron Fox scored 17 points. The Spurs needed all of it: Anthony Edwards countered with 32 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota, and Naz Reid came off the bench for 18 points and nine rebounds, keeping the Timberwolves within range deep into the fourth quarter.

San Antonio now leads the series 2-1, with Game 4 in Minnesota. The Spurs have won back-to-back after dropping the opener at home – and with Wembanyama operating at this level, the series trajectory looks increasingly clear.
