The Houston Rockets didn’t blink. Restricted free agent Tari Eason has agreed to a five-year, $81.5 million fully guaranteed deal to stay in Houston, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The contract includes a fifth-year player option and a 10% trade kicker.
The terms land Eason significantly more guaranteed money than the rookie-scale extension Houston had offered last fall. He chose to bet on himself – and it paid off.
A season that made the case
Eason played a career-high 25 minutes per game in 2025-26, averaging 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. His energy, defensive versatility, and motor made him one of the most impactful players in Houston’s rotation as the Rockets established themselves as one of the Western Conference’s most dangerous young teams.
Selected 17th overall in the 2022 draft, the 25-year-old spent four seasons developing into a reliable two-way contributor. His defensive instincts – ranking among the league leaders in steal percentage – were the primary driver of his market value in restricted free agency.
Rockets lock up their core
This signing signals Houston’s commitment to building around a proven, homegrown group. The Rockets held matching rights throughout the process, and the final terms reflect what Eason could command on the open market.
A five-year deal from both sides sends a clear message: Houston believes in Eason’s trajectory, and Eason has chosen to grow within a system where he has already established himself. The fully guaranteed structure removes any ambiguity about his place in the franchise’s plans heading into 2026-27.
