Jaylen Brown is going to Philadelphia. The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade their 2024 NBA Finals MVP to the 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks, per Shams Charania of ESPN.
76ers receive: Jaylen Brown
Celtics receive: Paul George + 1st-round picks (2028, 2031) + 2nd-round picks (2028, 2030)
Why Boston pulled the trigger
The Celtics had been shopping Brown for days after a failed run at Giannis Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee chose a Miami-centered package instead, leaving Brad Stevens to look elsewhere. Philadelphia was the answer – and the 76ers were willing to move George plus four picks to land a legitimate co-star for Joel Embiid.
Brown is owed $57 million this season, rising to $61 million in 2027-28 and $64.9 million the year after. He’s also eligible to sign a one-year extension starting July 26.
What each team gets
For Philadelphia, this is the move the front office has chased since the Process era ended. Brown-Embiid is one of the most dangerous duos in the Eastern Conference – and the market agreed. The 76ers’ championship odds moved from 60-1 to 22-1 overnight.
Boston’s calculus is different. Trading the second piece of their 2024 title core stings, but the four picks give Stevens something to build with. The Celtics also added center Mitchell Robinson on a three-year, $47.4 million deal and signed veteran point guard Mike Conley, signaling a deliberate reset rather than a panic move.
Paul George, 36, averaged 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds across 78 games in his two seasons with Philadelphia. He’ll now play for his fifth franchise.
